Liposuction

Liposuction is a surgical procedure that removes excess fat deposits from specific areas of the body to improve shape and contour.

It is not a treatment for obesity or significant weight loss but is intended to target localized fat deposits that are resistant to diet and exercise.

Common areas treated include:

  • Abdomen

  • Thighs

  • Knees

  • Flanks (love handles)

  • Buttocks

Liposuction is performed by inserting a thin suction cannula beneath the skin to gently remove fat cells.

Techniques vary and may include:

  • Conventional suction-assisted liposuction

  • Ultrasonic-assisted liposuction (uses sound waves to break down fat)

  • Power-assisted liposuction (uses a vibrating cannula to ease fat removal)

At consultation, Mr Eccles will help determine which technique and areas are best suited to your goals.

    • Small, localized areas may be treated under local anaesthetic with sedation

    • More extensive procedures generally require general anaesthesia

    • Surgery duration varies depending on the number of areas treated

    • Most patients can go home the same day, although some prefer to stay overnight

    • Expect bruising, swelling, and mild discomfort for several days to weeks

    • Swelling may persist for a few weeks, and the final body contour will become apparent over 3–6 months

    • You will be advised to wear firm compression garments for 1–2 weeks to support healing, reduce swelling, and improve skin smoothness

    • Most patients take 1–2 weeks off work, depending on the extent of surgery

    • Light activities can be resumed as tolerated

    • Avoid strenuous exercise, heavy lifting, and vigorous activity for at least 3–4 weeks

    • Pain is usually manageable with simple painkillers

  • As with all surgeries, liposuction carries risks including:

    • Bruising and swelling (expected)

    • Contour irregularities or unevenness

    • Temporary numbness or altered sensation in treated areas

    • Infection (rare)

    • Seroma (fluid accumulation requiring drainage)

    • Skin laxity if the skin does not contract well after fat removal

    • Fat embolism (extremely rare but serious)

Mr Eccles will discuss these risks and your suitability in detail during consultation.

    • Liposuction results are generally permanent as fat cells are removed

    • However, significant weight gain after surgery can cause remaining fat cells to enlarge, potentially altering results

    • Maintaining a stable weight and healthy lifestyle is essential to preserve your new shape

Mr Eccles will help you understand realistic outcomes based on your individual case.
