Lip lift

A lip lift is a surgical procedure that shortens the distance between the nose and the upper lip, enhancing the appearance of the lips by making the upper lip look fuller, more defined, and youthful.

It is ideal for patients who have:

  • A long upper lip

  • Thin upper lips that disappear when smiling

  • Desire for a more defined cupid’s bow and natural lip enhancement without fillers

The procedure involves removing a small strip of skin just beneath the nose (typically in a bullhorn shape) and lifting the upper lip. This increases the amount of visible pink lip and improves lip proportion and balance.

  • A surgical lip lift usually takes about 45–60 minutes It is typically performed under local anaesthesia, meaning you can go home the same day The incision is made at the base of the nose and carefully closed with fine sutures. The scar is hidden in the natural crease beneath the nose and usually heals very well

  • Swelling and mild bruising are normal and usually settle within 7–10 days. Stitches are typically removed after 5–7 days and most patients feel comfortable returning to work or social activities within one week. You may experience tightness in the upper lip during healing but it will get better with time. Avoid excessive lip movement, heavy chewing, or vigorous brushing for the first week.

The scar will continue to fade over several months.

  • As with any surgical procedure, there are some risks to be aware of:

    • Bruising, swelling, and discomfort in the early days

    • Scarring (usually well-hidden, but may be visible in rare cases)

    • Asymmetry or irregular contour

    • Overcorrection or undercorrection

    • Infection or delayed healing (rare)

    • Numbness or sensitivity in the upper lip area

    • Change in lip movement or stiffness, usually temporary

Careful consultation is essential to ensure you are a good candidate and have realistic expectations. Mr. Eccles will discuss all aspects of the procedure and tailor the plan to suit your facial anatomy.

  • Results are permanent, although the natural ageing process will continue over time. Unlike fillers, a lip lift does not need to be repeated, though some patients may combine it with fillers or other treatments later on for added volume or definition.

The surgical scar typically fades well and becomes barely noticeable.
