Mr Eccles is a Trustee and Surgeon with the charity Facing the World. This charity was started by two craniofacial surgeons, Martin Kelly and Norman Waterhouse, and Mr Eccles joined the charity in 2003. Facing the World aims to provide children with facial disfigurement from around the world, the opportunity to undergo facial reconstructive surbery. This surgery is carried out by a team of surgeons, including , anaesthetists, intensivists, paediatricians and a diverse range of medical specialties depending on their needs. From 2009 Mr Eccles has visited Vietnam annually, and is involved in training surgeons locally in central Vietnam. This has led to the development of a craniofacial unit in Danang. This year, 2016, Mr Eccles and the team will visit Hanoi, and the second craniofacial unit in Vietnam will be established. Mr Eccles and his colleague, Mr Kirkpatrick were asked to give the third annual BUPA Cromwell Quality lecture. This lecture championed Facing the World, and the committed teams of doctors, nurse and allied health professionals in the UK who look after and care for these children and their families from around the world. There are several documentaries which describe the work carried out by the charity, and they include: 7 faces in 7 days If you would like to know more about the work of Facing the World, please go to: www.facingtheworld.net
